A no-code platform for payment businesses to onboard and manage merchants

Shape is a customizable, white-label payments-platform-as-a-service (PPaaS) built for payment service providers who need to launch or re-platform without the cost and delay of a self-build. It gives acquirers, payment gateways, and payment facilitators a modular, fully automated solution they can configure, brand, and take to market without programming.
CHALLENGE
Building a payment platform from scratch is a years-long, capital-intensive undertaking that forces many payment service providers (PSPs) to fall behind competitors. Shape Technologies set out to solve it, but the solution itself came with a demanding set of requirements.
The platform had to be genuinely flexible – not a white-label version of a single PSP product, but an architecture that could serve an ISO as a standalone merchant data capture tool, a PayFac as a full orchestration engine, and anything in between. At the same time, it had to automate the manual backend processes like onboarding, compliance verification, fund management, reporting, billing, etc that consume disproportionate operational resources at most PSPs. Additionally, it had to allow licensees deep enough customization control that no two Shape instances would look the same.
SOLUTION
We built Shape as a modular web platform that allows licensees to select the combination of modules (out of six) their business requires and configure each one to their own workflow, branding, and compliance thresholds.
- Shape Onboarding lets licensees configure their own merchant database structure, generate custom sign-up forms, and automate the onboarding journey through to a signed contract.
- Shape Verify runs automated global eKYC checks with configurable acceptance thresholds, routing merchant applications without manual intervention.
- Shape Data consolidates real-time gateway transaction data alongside acquirer settlement data in a single view.
- Shape Payments gives licensees end-to-end control over acceptance options, consumer disputes, and fund orchestration through to settlement.
- Shape Analytics provides merchant-facing dashboards as well as internal team performance monitoring.
- Shape Billing automates merchant invoicing across multiple billing types and invoice formats.
Together, these six modules cover everything a PSP needs to run its merchant-facing operations, from the moment a new merchant applies through to settlement and billing.
RESULTS
Shape launched on 1 June 2023 with key modules available for licensees. Bamboo Group continues to collaborate with Shape Technologies on platform expansion, new integrations, and ongoing performance monitoring.
By now, Shape has added partnerships with Shift4 and PXP, extending its payment processing reach across the UK, EU, and US.
